Intrinsic aging occurs naturally and can be accelerated by extrinisice factors including sunlight, pollution, smoking and other lifestyle factors. This aging process affects 3 key components of skin:
Collagen is lost- by 1% per year from age 20 gradually reducing the skin’s structural support.
Elastin is impaired. Accumulation of abnormal elastin fibres reduces the skin’s flexibility.
Remodelling of fat tissue under the skin (white adipose tissue). This alters the skin’s structure, function and appearance.
As a result of the above, we see a reduced firmness and elasticity of the skin, increased fine lines and wrinkles and reduced volume and contours.

HOW IT WORKS
Once injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer, Sculptra's microparticles trigger a gentle, controlled response within the skin. This stimulates your body's own fibroblasts (the cells responsible for collagen production) to generate new collagen gradually over the following weeks and months. Importantly, Sculptra increases type 1 collagen as well as stimulating elastin production and the transformation of adipocyte progenitor cells resulting in firmer, more radiant and thicker skin
Because the results build slowly, Sculptra doesn't tend to produce an obvious "just had something done" appearance. Instead, results tend to look subtle and natural, developing progressively over a series of treatment sessions, typically patients will have a second treatment at 6 weeks followed by a further treatment at 6 months.
The PLLA itself is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, while the new collagen it has stimulated remains, providing ongoing structural support.
Results are not instant. Most patients begin to notice a gradual improvement over 4–8 weeks after each session, with full results typically visible after a full course of treatment, and effects that can last up to two years or more.

Sculptra is an injectable containing microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) encapsulated in a carboxymethyl cellulose envelope.
It is a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material that has been used safely in medicine for decades (including in dissolvable stitches). Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which add volume immediately, Sculptra works differently: it's classed as a collagen biostimulator, meaning it encourages your skin to produce its own new collagen over time.
After the age of 20, we naturally lose around 1% of our collagen every year. This gradual decline is one of the key reasons skin can start to look thinner, less firm, and more lined as we age. Sculptra is designed to help counteract this process.
